The string ensemble de Fancy Fiddlers consists of violin and cello talents aged 6 to 19 years under the supervision of the Hilversum violin pedagogue Coosje Wijzenbeek. The young violinists from all over the country come to Hilversum every week for their individual lessons. In addition, every Saturday together with cello pupils of fellow teachers at the Conservatory of Amsterdam, intensive chamber music is studied in various settings under the common denominator "Fancy Fiddlers".
The ensemble was formed in 1984 when an exchange was organized with Hungary. Since then, the Fancy Fiddlers perform frequently on very diverse occasions and on many different Dutch concert stages, including The Concertgebouw, TivoliVredenburg, Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ, but also on stages throughout Europe (Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel in Waterloo) and even in China. During their concerts, the Fancy Fiddlers play compositions in various settings: from solo work to string orchestra. The concerts are primarily intended to allow young music talents to gain as much stage experience as possible.
Many soloists and ensembles have emerged from the Fancy Fiddlers who have found their way to the international stages.
