Back in the past, when there was no multifunction printer and the internet was yet unheard of, printing music was a lucrative business. The leading character in this storytelling concert program will be the Amsterdam printer Estienne Roger. Illegal copies, violation of property rights, plagiarism, price wars: Roger and his contemporaries went all the way to sell as much music sheets as possible, while disregarding the property rights of the composers. But Roger made excellent music sheets and all the great composers wanted to work with him. Particularly Italian violin virtuosi such as Corelli and Vivaldi came to the capital city of Holland, in order to distribute their work everywhere and reach a large audience.
Good ol' Roger had also a knack for the music du jour en he copied the music sheets from the maestro's of baroque, such as Rameau, Lully and Telemann. But thanks to Roger we can still enjoy a considerable amount of music from that era, and Continuo Company will tackle this gift from the past, together with violinist Jacek Kurzydlo, an up and coming talent in old music.
