The Brughuisje next to the Okura Hotel was designed by the Amsterdam School architect Piet Kramer. It is a unique location, and the Grachtenfestival likes to include unusual concert locations such as this in the programme. Both during the Amsterdam School period and the time afterwards, from 1917 to 1952, Kramer worked at the Bridges department of the Municipal Public Services unit, for whom he designed some two hundred bridges. Dana has included works in her programme that fit in neatly with the Zeitgeist of the Brughuisje at number 44, Jozef Israëlskade. Solo sonatas by Paul Hindemith (1922), an Elegy by Igor Stravinsky (1944) and an arrangement of Recitativo-Scherzo by Fritz Kreisler (1911), music from the Late Romantic and Modern periods: the audience is placed both literally and figuratively in a very special time capsule!
