The bright new winners of the Storioni Willem Twee Concours 2018 will debute on the Grachtenfestival. Originated in Belgium, Firgun Ensemble offers a wonderful concert with well known and lesser known work for the remarkable combination of clarinet and string quartet. The Firguns start with the spheric ‘Rêverie Orientale’ by Aleksandr Glazoenov. The Russian wrote this work when he was barely 21 years old, which is maybe the reason that these young musicians feel so close to his music. Next they will perform Berceuse from the ‘Souvenirs de Voyages’ by Bernhard Herrmann. Herrmann is best known for his notorious Hitchcock soundtracks. In later compositions he shows that he has the chamber music down pat and he also knew how to create one of the more important works of the twentieth century for this strength. The clarinet quintet in A by Mozart is considered to be one of the most beloved chamber music works. The gates of heaven open at the first notes, followed by a merry Allegro. In the Larghetto Mozart lets the clarinet shine as only he could. In the Menuet and the Allegretto con Variazioni Mozart shows his most original and playful side. Firgun will bring a smile on your face with the for them composed arrangement of the French song 'Sous le ciel de Paris'.
This concert is made possible by Hotel Pulitzer Amsterdam.
