"What if we do it like this?" King Willem I asked his cabinet in 1816, drawing a straight line from the capital to the North Sea. It took decades before they started working at the Noordzeekanaal/North Sea Canal, but still, without the words of the king, it may have never happened. And thus: cause for a celebration!
We will do so with two concerts: one in the Passenger Terminal Amsterdam and one in the Felison Terminal in IJmuiden. The party starts in the afternoon at noon (12 pm) with a concert by Het JeugdOrkest Nederland (JON), a group of young talents from all over the Netherlands. With fresh and excellent orchestral play, these young musicians celebrate classical music with each and every performance, including modern day orchestral music. Today they will play in chamber orchestra setting, works by Mozart and Haydn, with the solo horn player of the Koninklijk Concertgebouw Orkest, Laurens Woudenberg. The Horn Concertos by Mozart and Haydn are rarely performed, which makes this a unique and special programme.
At 5 pm, the programme will continue in the Felison Terminal in IJmuiden. Take a boat trip along the North Sea Canal and you will be able to enjoy a performance by Fuse. The group begins a musical journey from the waiting room of the terminal, using a melting pot of different genres/styles as a point of departure. In a somewhat irregular set up of a string quartet, double bass and percussion they will perform works by Bartók, Zappa and Brubeck.
