The JeugdOrkest Nederland (JON) is an important and fun education for young musicians. The orchestra consists of 85 young talented musicians who play music together at a high level. Tours abroad, performances in all major Dutch concert halls or playing on the Amsterdam canals, they do it all.
During Grachtenfestival Amsterdam you will be able to see the orchestra play at the Kop van Java, amidst the many impressive tall ships in town during SAIL. Conducted by their permanent conductor Jurjen Hempel, the orchestra will play the appropriately chosen ‘Piet Hein Rhapsodie’, by the Dutch composer Peter van Anrooy. Soloist is violinist and GrachtenfestivalPrijs 2015 nominee Maria Milstein, with her interpretation of 'Schindler's List'. And don’t (or do!) get blown away by the whirling 'Symphoniefantastique' by Hector Berlioz. The JON is a grand feast of music, on water.
