Lotte de Beer is today’s hottest Dutch conductor, having garnered rave review the world over. Last January saw the premiere of Puccini’s La Bohème in Vienna under her musical direction. In this modern adaptation of the opera that made Puccini an international sensation, Lotte de Beer shows us a generation impoverished by excess. The poor artists of Puccini’s version have been replaced with young men born into wealth, but their emotional poverty may be even worse than the material poverty that characterized the artists. After Vienna, it is now Amsterdam’s turn to enjoy this magnificent modern opera. Showing exclusively during the Grachtenfestival!
