Great adaptations of songs, played by the most ‘vocal’ instruments in music: the violin. Violinist Mathieu van Bellen composed a song program in his residency. The violin adaptations of these songs have been played by the grand old masters of the violin, a great source of inspiration for the Artist in Residence.
“This concert, with a variety of song arrangements for violin and piano, will take place in Grand Café l’Opera on the Rembrandtplein. We wil perform known and lesser known songs, originally for vocal, and often newly arranged by violinists like Jascha Heifetz and also by composers themselves. Pianist Omri Epstein and I will perform the entire ‘Porgy and Bess Suite’ by George Gerswhin, as well as the wonderful song ‘An Einsamere Quelle’ and an arrangement of Kurt Weills ‘Mack the Knife’. And the bar is open!”
Mathieu van Bellen has won the GrachtenfestivalPrijs in 2015 and the violinist from Zeeuws-Vlaanderen has the honour as Artist in Residence to arrange a part of the program for his Grachtenfestival.
