Ivo Janssen plays Simeon ten Holts’ modern masterpiece ‘Canto Ostinato’ amidst a spectacular set of moving patterns projected on a large screen. In this hallucinatory encounter between music and visual art, Ten Holt's acknowledged favourite pianist plays the meditative work in a solo recital, where most performances are by duos or quartets. At the same time that Ten Holt was composing his ‘Canto’ towards the end of the 1970s, artist Bonnie Willems developed a kinetic artwork comprised of disassembled clocks. It took artist Rogier Willems to recognize the power of this combination. Together, he and Ivo Janssen worked out an idea for an exciting symbiosis of images and piano music..
