The Nieuw Amsterdams Klarinet Kwartet is on an eternal Expedition for new gems for the entire clarinet family. These treasure hunters are on the list of nominees for the GrachtenfestivalPrijs 2015. The quartet are: Lieke van den Beuken, soprano clarinet; Bart de Kater, clarinet/ basset horn; Jesse Faber, clarinet/ basset horn; Hilde Kaizer, bass clarinet.
The Nieuw Amsterdams Klarinet Kwartet will pay tribute to its beloved Amsterdam. During this concert, you will follow an Expedition through the history of this special city and enter into the most intimate areas of her musical soul. And it is a soul with many faces! A street musician from Eastern Europe has an entirely different view on the city of Amsterdam than the perspective offered from the classical tradition of the Concertgebouw. And the rebelliously innovative Willem Breuker will procure a different view than the lyrical city sketches by the famous Dutch cabaret artist Wim Sonneveld. For some, Amsterdam is the Venice of the North, for others, the city is merely a drug user’s paradise. Amsterdam is the barrel organs capital, a multicultural melting pot and for yet another person it could be a place where they make you wait forever for a parking license.
