Olga Pashchenko’s programme showcases the Romantic period in music from beginning to end, with works by Field, Chopin and Medtner.
The inventor of the nocturne, John Field was active in Russia at the beginning of the 19th century and is generally regarded as a Russian composer. He had a major hand in the evolution of Russian music and in the development of Romanticism in that country. Frédéric Chopin was a great admirer of Field’s work and style, which had a significant influence on Chopin’s own compositional technique. Nikolai Medtner is a composer who worked in a steadfastly rich romantic style even up until midway into the last century.
