‘Tussen wal(tz) en schip’
"What was the name of that part?"… or … “Oh, I forgot who wrote that!"…
This happens to all of is when listening to the radio or attending a concert. The style period we recognize, but the name of the composer doesn’t always jump to mind. ‘Tussen wal(tz) en schip’ is a program that builds a bridge between the late romantic period and the birth of one of the founders of jazz and blues: Miles Davis. It has many well known works, but also parts we only know from movies, advertising, or tv shows. Be sure to leave the concert with an extensive knowledge of original titles, this afternoon presented in arrangements by brass quintet Pelgrom Brass.
The late romantic period is presented in rapid succession, and notice how the harmony and virtuosity will not cease to expand. In those days, orchestras had to be bigger to be more impressive, but Pelgrim Brass shows that modest can be equally impressive. All boundaries are explored and we make sure that you don’t end up ‘tussen wal en schip’.
Het concert vindt plaats op het tijdelijke kunstwerk 'Palace Ruin' van kunstenaar James Beckett
