Pianist Maud Nelissen’s new score to accompany the Russian silent film The Overcoat will be performed tonight at an outdoor screening with live music by eight cellos and piano and the IJ as a shadowy presence in the background. The film tells the story of a drab Russian civil servant who buys an expensive overcoat imagining it will lift his status. Charlie Chaplin's film The Immigrant will be shown before the main feature, also with musical accompaniment by Nelissen and the Cello8ctet.
