The Grachtenfestival 2018 will come to a spectacular closing with what many considered to be one of the absolute highlights in the oeuvre of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. Artist in Residence Ella van Poucke and the JeugdOrkest Nederland directed by Jurjen Hempel will join hands playing the Variations on a Rococo Theme, Tchaikovsky’s masterpiece for cello and orchestra, for which he was inspired by his idol, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The theme in Rococo-style will transform during the piece, in eight different personalities, eight variations, each one brilliant and unique. The JeugdOrkest Nederland will open the concert with symphony number 101 by Joseph Haydn, also known as the Clock Symphony, referring to the rhythms of the bassoons in its lovely second part.
