During this concert, harpist Inge Louisa van Grinsven plays pieces originally written for the harp from Scarlatti's sonata. Her show starts with a serene piece, somewhat contemplative. Since Scarlatti spent almost his entire life in Italy, he was not influenced by contemporaries outside of Italy such as Bach and Handel. This gave his keyboard music an unprecedented style of its own.
Inge Louisa van Grinsven (21) won awards at national and international competitions. Inge has been a laureate of Classic Young Masters since 2017. As a soloist, Inge has performed with Orkest Zuid and with Sinfonia Rotterdam. Furthermore, she played in the Youth Orchestra Netherlands and the National Youth Orchestra. Inge performed as well in de Doelen in Rotterdam, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Muziekgebouw Eindhoven, during the Grachtenfestival Amsterdam, the Bachfestival in Dordrecht, at NPO Radio 4 and at TV program Podium Witteman. Since 2019, Inge studies harp at the Conservatory of Amsterdam with Erika Waardenburg and Gwyneth Wentink.
Viola player Lotus de Vries, graduate of the Staatskapelle Berlin, is bringing her solo program to the Netherlands especially for the Grachtenfestival!
During this concert she will play pieces by Biber and Hindemith.
The viola can often be heard as part of an ensemble or orchestra. Lotus shows how the viola can shine as a solo instrument, whereby the sound of this beautiful instrument comes very close to the human voice.
Dutch violist Lotus de Vries recently received her master's degree from the Hanns Eisler in Berlin, where she studied with Tabea Zimmermann and Florian Peelman. She is a popular chamber musician at domestic and foreign festivals and has collaborated with renowned musicians including Lorenza Borrani, Stefan Arzberger, Olivier Patey, Eckhart Runge, Nikita Boriso-Glebsky, Shirley Brill, Avri Levitan, Johannes Meissl, Markus Schirmer and Karin Strobos. She also plays regularly in orchestras such as the Concertgebouw Orchestra, Radio Philharmonic Orchestra and LUDWIG! She recently won the audition for the academy position at the Staatskapelle Berlin, where she will begin the two-year track in season 2022/23.
Lotus has been broadcast several times with her quartet and solo on Dutch television and radio in programs such as Podium Witteman and on Radio 4. In June 2021, "Introspect", the quartet's debut CD, was released by Cobra Records.
