The Belinfante Quartet was founded in 2016 and has performed since then throughout The Netherlands and Europe. With the aim of sharing music with a wide audience, the Belinfante Quartet combines the core of the string quartet repertoire with lesser-known works. Currently, the quartet is "Quartet in Residence" at the Nederlands Strijkkwartet Academie, where they take lessons grom Marc Danel and many guest teachers. Recently, all of the four musicians have followed master classes with Eberhard Feltz, Oliver Wille (Kuss Quartet), the Quatuor Diotima, Johannes Meissl, Pavel Fischer and Gregor Sigl (Artemis Quartett).
The Belinfante Quartet has played on various European festivals, including the Strijkkwartet Biënnale Amsterdam, the Tiberius Festival in Romania and the International Chamber Music Festival Utrecht. Last season, they were live on NPO Radio 4 at the Spiegelzaal and they performed during Podium Witteman.
In addition to playing at concerts, the quartet likes to collaborate with artists from other disciplines. For the Delft Fringe Festival 2019, Belinfante Quartet created together with visual artist Jordi Cárdenas Lozano 'Tchk-Tsjech!' - a performance in which they combined fairytale music of Léos Janácek with poetic abstract projections. With these performances they won the Delft Chamber Music Festival Award 2019. For Who's Next Almere, Belinfante Quartet worked together with dance company Static on beautiful dance performances based on classical music, with high school students.
With their name, the quartet honors Frieda Belinfante, cellist and the first female conductor in Europe. Her sincerity, determination and fervor, both in music and other aspects of her life are a great inspiration.
