Ensemble

The Firgun Ensemble is a Belgian chamber music group consisting of Ludovic Bataillie (violin), Ciska Vandelanotte (violin), Timothy McAllister (viola), Fien Van Damme (cello) and Emile Souvagie (clarinet). They were formed out of students/friends from the Antwerp and Brussels Royal Conservatories. They focus exclusively on the repertoire for clarinet and string quartet. They take lessons on a regular base with France Springuel and Tony Nys (Malibran Quartet). Furthermore they were coached by Etienne Siebens, Benjamin Dieltjens, Peter Merckx (HERMESensemble), Erik Schumann (Schumann Quartet), Wouter Vossen (Storioni Trio) and Nathalie Lefèvre (Oxalys).

In January of 2018 they won the Storioni Willem Twee Chamber Music Competition in 's Hertogenbosch together with the audience prize. This meant their radio debut for NPO Radio 4 live from the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. During the summer they can be heard in Muziekgebouw Eindhoven, during the NJO Muziekzomer and at the Grachtenfestival.

Firgun is an untranslatable Hebrew term, roughly meaning 'an unselfish, empathetic joy that something good has happened, or might happen, to another person'
