Nicolas van Poucke

Nicolas van Poucke is one of the most promising dutch pianists.
He won first prizes and audience awards on both the Steinway International Piano Competition 2006 and the Princes Christina Competition 2006. He also won a prize for the best interpretation of a work by J.S. Bach at the European Union Piano Competition 2009. In 2010 during the YPF National Piano Competition he was awarded the top prize in his age category.

As a soloist Nicolas has performed in virtually all prominent concert halls in the Netherlands and also performed in Germany, France, Switserland, Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Greece, Cananda, the UK and the USA.

At the age of thirteen Nicolas made his the debut in the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and at age of fourteen he made his orchestral debut with the Dutch Youth Orchestra. Among the other orchestra’s Nicolas performed with are the Rotterdam Chamber Orchestra (Rotterdam Sinfonia) and the Amsterdam Chamber Orchestra.

He can regularly be heard on Radio4 (the dutch classical radio) and also on Klara and the Bayerischen Rundfunk.

Beside a soloist, Nicolas is a very passionate chamber musician.
He performed with distinguished musicians as Christiaan Bor, Colin Carr, Godfried Hoogeveen, Jean-Claude vanden Eynden and ensembles like the Rubens Quartet. Nicolas has enjoyed chamber music coaching from many distinguished musicians like Gabor Tacakc-Nagy, Jeffery Kahane, Wu Han,  Claude Frank and Members of the Emerson, Orion and Borromeo Quartets.

On may 20th 2012 he played the Brahms Piano Quintet in the presence of the Queen of the Netherlands.

Nicolas studies with Jan Wijn at the conservatory of Amsterdam. His past teachers include David Kuyken, Henk Ekkel and Marlies van Gent.
Nicolas enjoyed several lessons with Murray Perahia and has received masterclasses from Emanuel Ax, Dimitri Bashkirov and Stephen Kovacivich at the Verbier Festival Academy. He also had masterclasses from Menahem Pressler, Maria Joao Pires, Jean-Yves Thibaudet, Gary Graffman and Pascal Devoyon.
