Modar Salama is a percussionist and drummer, born in Damascus and living in Amsterdam at the moment. Modar studied classical and oriental percussion on the Higher Institute in Damascus and started building his career as a drummer in diverse bands and music theatre productions. After Modar moved to the Netherlands, he started to focuss on oriëntal percussion more. He worked with various renowned ensembles and artists such as Brussels Jazz Orchestra, IJ-salon, Atlas Ensemble, The Dutch Andalusian Orchestra, Martin Fondse and Ellen ten Damme. At this moment, Modar works a lot with Slagwerk Den Haag, as well as his own ensembles Dyar Band and Trio Qasyoun. In theatre, Modar is a welcome guest. He made productions, together with De Nieuw Amsterdam (Ik Hou van Holland/Salaam Jeruzalem), Space (SOS Earth) and Storyteller. Besides his performances in the Netherlands, Modar is invited to perform abroad a lot.
