Niels Jacobs

Niels (19) was born in Leiden, where he still lives. When he was eight years old he began with lessons euphonium from René Leckie at the show-and-marchingband Kunst en Genoegen Leiden. When he was ten, he started playing the trombone.

At the age of fourteen, he was admitted to the Youth Orchestra of the Netherlands, and shortly after he decided to focus on playing and listening to classical music. He now had lessons from Remko de Jager and later from Lennart de Winter, and he got admitted to the Young Trombone Collective; he played with this ensemble for three years.
In 2016 Niels got admitted to the preliminary year Classical Trombone at the Conservatory of Amsterdam, where he had lessons from Pierre Volders, Remko de Jager and Jörgen van Rijen. His first expierence as a soloist in front of an orchestra was at the age of seventeen, playing with the Waterlandse Harmonie.

In 2017 he got accepted into the first year of the bachelor Classical Trombone at the Conservatory of Amsterdam. In 2018 he won the first prize of the Princess Christina Competition, in the third category: ’15 to 19 years old and fulltime student at a conservatory’. In May 2018 he played as a soloist at the Leidse Hofjes Concerts.
