A true veteran of the jazz scene in the Netherlands and abroad! A unique opportunity at this BUURTconcert to see Gideon in action at the beautiful Mercatorplein!
Gideon Tazelaar Trio consists of bandleader Gideon Tazelaar (saxophone), Steve Zwanink (double bass) and Tim Hennekes (drums). The trio plays the music of the legendary jazz pianist and orchestra leader Duke Ellington. The young musicians take on the challenge of capturing the swelling sound of Ellington and his Big Band with this small group.
Gideon Tazelaar (1997) started playing the saxophone at age of seven. At age eight he performed at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and since age eleven he plays at the North Sea Jazz Festival almost every year, including with his own quartet. When he turned fourteen, he was admitted to the bachelor's program of the Conservatorium of Amsterdam. He was a regular guest of the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw and the New Cool Collective and played with the world's best jazz musicians such as: Dick Oatts, Eric Alexander, Benjamin Herman, Ruud Jacobs, Peter Beets and John Engels.
