For this anniversary year Opera op Zak in co-production with the Grachtenfestival presents an operatic diptych, to be admired in the Vondelkerk.
In these times in which it is increasingly difficult to find a sense of 'us', sustainable relationships are no longer self-evident and everyone has to find their own way, living together seems to have become something special.
Do we still dare to enter new relationships? Surrender to uncertainty? Do we have the courage to allow vulnerability? And, can we still trust the other person? In We Two we explore relationships in uncertain times. The short opera The Telephone by Giancarlo Menotti, composed in 1947 and the song cycle Four Dialogues by Ned Rorem from 1954 are combined into a new collage performance for four singers and two pianists. In seven scenes, ever-changing duos explore the (im)possibilities of relationships. We Two lasts approximately fifty minutes.
Featuring: Anne van Amerongen and Meike Wijma (soprano), Milan de Korte (tenor), Wessel Wirken (baritone), Jeroen Sarphati (rehearsal pianist) & Jorian van Nes (pianist). Elsina Jansen (artistic direction, concept and direction), Job Gijsbrechts (costume design), Eline Visscher (direction and production assistant).
WE TWO is made possible by the Amsterdam Fund for the Arts.
