The Babylon Quartet plays on Royal fields, field where time and distances have been bridged over the centuries. The four nationalities of the Babylon Quartet form no obstacle for these musicians to feel a connection, on the contrary: their different backgrounds inspire the quartet to highly creative levels. Centerpiece of their concert is ‘Second String Quartet Op. 51’ by Johannes Brahms. Brahms was a perfectionist, who considered this genre a tremendous challenge and he wrote just three string quartets; the first premiered in 1873 when he was 40 years old. This is topnotch chamber music with the rich and enchanting quintessential Brahms sound.
The concert venue is another challenge, for the audience first has to find the golden gate on platform 2b, where the ‘Koninklijke Wachterkamer’ is located behind, het ‘koningspaviljoen’ which is the gem of Amsterdam Central Station.
