The young pianist Camiel Boomsma has compiled an impressive programme of piano transcriptions of operas by Wagner. Included are adaptations from Wagner's masterpiece, Der Ring des Nibelungen, including Siegmunds Liebesgesang, Siegmund’s love song to Sieglinde, and the Waldweben, the dialogue between the hero Siegfried and the birds. From Wagner’s last opera, Parsifal, we will hear the monumental Verwandlungsmusik and the Charfreitags-Zauber (“Good Friday Spell”). Tristan und Isolde is Wagner’s biggest and most moving musical drama. It made a great impression on his contemporaries and many later composers, who were swept away by it. From this romantic tragedy, we will hear the Prelude and the final scene, the Liebestod, in which Isolde dies of grief after Tristan’s death. The concluding piece will be the Trauermarsch, which marks the death of Siegfried and the end of the Ring Cycle.
