In the 18th century many composers went on an Expedition to Italy, to find inspiration and to learn from the great classic artists. Mendelssohn travelled all over Europe from 1829 to 1831. With great enthusiasm he began his 'Italian symphony' in Italy, and he wrote in a letter to his parents: "This is Italy! It seems to provide for the start of something that I already suspected long time ago ... that this is the ultimate joy in life. And I love it."
In 1813 Rossini was 21 years old when he composed the opera 'L’Italiana in Algeri' within a month. The opera is about the Italian Isabella, who goes on a journey to Algeria to find her beloved Lindoro. The overture is strongly influenced by the oriental sound, as a prelude to the growing exoticism of the early 19th century.
Mozart is a shining example of the travelling composer. He composed 'Le nozze di Figaro' in 1785 and 1786, and this opera, together with 'Così fan tutte' and 'Don Giovanni', belongs to his 'grand Italian three'. The overture is often performed as an independent musical composition.
De Klankkast will perform the works of these three composers. A chamber orchestra of talented music students and recently graduated musicians of several Dutch music schools, and they will play without a conductor! Hence the members of the orchestra will be even more focused on each other, which guarantees interesting dynamics during the concert.
