Popartsong duo presents: folk / pop / poetry
The concert of the Popartsong duo is part of Opus Novum, a new series where old and new works of Dutch homegrown music at central stage. The programming consists of five concerts of classical and jazz music. With the series Opus Novum, the Grachtenfestival not only gives (new) Dutch music a central stage, but gives musicians and ensembles who want to delve into this genre of music an extra chance to present a special program.
Mezzo-soprano Adanya Dunn and pianist Seán Morgan-Rooney present a programme of contemporary art song settings of indigenous folk melodies, artpop songs and eclectic poetry. The recital features the duo’s own original compositions alongside works by other Netherlands-based composers, encompassing arrangements of Irish melodies, reworkings of some of Björk's most innovative songs, and contemporary takes on the centuries-old art song format and its veneration of poetry. Seán and Adanya blend popular and art music elements, embracing a more democratic pool of influence and connecting us all as a wider musical audience.
