The annual Grachtenfestival Amsterdam will be held for the 17th time in a row, with concerts on wonderful venues. But never before the venue itself has been used as an instrument, nor was it part of the music as such. The extraordinary building composition Tasten has been written by composer Arnold Marinissen:
"Music needs a building, a hall and acoustics to get the best sound results. But how does a building sound by itself? Stone, metal, wood, glass, synthetic materials, and the electricity grid that are present in every building, produce the common yet unorthodox sound sources for Tasten. Six musicians play on the building as well as on their own instruments. And thus the Berlage Saxophone Quartet, percussionist Ryoko Imai and pianist Yoram Ish-Hurwitz will create a world of sound in which they will eventually turn into soloists. Besides Tasten, they will also perform works from Farkas, Moesorgski, Grieg and others.
