During Grachtenfestival Amsterdam De Nederlandse Reisopera will do a double bill: The Telephone & Façade.
The Telephone is a modern day opera, and very true to our times: Lucy is always on the phone. Ben tries to speak to her, but Lucy only has eyes and ears for her phone. Ben has something really urgent to ask her before he leaves on another trip...
The Telephone is a coproduction of De Nederlandse Reisopera and Göteborg Opera. Composed by Gian Carlo Menotti, this performance is directed by Mia Ringblom Hjertner. Soprano Maartje Rammeloo, a nominee for this year’s GrachtenfestivalPrijs, will play the part of Lucy. Ben will be played by Canadian baritone Drew Santini.
Façade is the second performance in this double bill. Façade consists of poems written by Elisabeth Sitwell, recited to compositions by William Walton. In the years following its premiere in 1923, Walton rewrote the piece, causing some controversy: the audience and critics had trouble accepting it, because of its unorthodox and humorous nature. It gave William Walton the acclaim ‘enfant terrible’ of modern English music.
Façade is by Nicolas Mansfield, general and artistic director of Nederlandse Reisopera and Rosemary Joshua, former artistic director of the Dutch National Opera Academy. Musical accompaniment: De Bezetting Speelt.
A double bill: two unique performances in one go, in the festival centre Het Compagnietheater.
Combineer de voorstelling The Telephone / Façade met een heerlijke maaltijd.
