"Sons of Freud’s Wife is a six piece international band based in Amsterdam. One Italian, one Greek, one Danish and three Israelis found each other while researching for the musical idiom of Charles Mingus.
Their music spans from tumultuous lyrical ballads to precipitous up-tempos, often covering both extremes in one single composition using eccentric tempo changes and dynamic contrasts. The unorthodox horn setup of flute, trombone and alto/baritone saxophone provides an intriguing array of colours and timbres. Joined by an adventurous piano trio rhythm section, the Sons play original compositions and arrangements of Charles Mingus songs. Their music - with all its twists and turns - is held together by a deep friendship that is portrayed vividly through playful gimmicks on stage."
