Boekmanstichting

Herengracht 415 1017 BP Amsterdam

Since 1978, the Boekman Foundation has been located in the listed building at Herengracht 415. In almost six decades since the Boekman Foundation was founded (1963), the foundation has developed into the independent resource center for art, culture and policy in the Netherlands. Over the years it has built a solid foundation on which it continues to build. At the same time the foundation continues to innovate in order to stay connected to a world that is changing rapidly and in many ways.

In 1666, a house with a bell gable was built almost 160-feet deep. That same house was sold by the city at an auction in the same year. In 1930, the R.K. Public Reading Room and Library opened in the building. In 1993 the Boekman Foundation had the painted the ceiling and wall decorations in the Auditorium in order for the original ornaments and details, often referring to Fides (faith) and Scientia (science), to be properly displayed again.
