't Zonnehuis

Zonneplein 29 1033 EJ Amsterdam Noord

't Zonnehuis is a beautiful monumental location inspired by the Amsterdam School style and designed by Jacoba Mulder. The building opened its doors in 1932 and is inextricably linked to the history of Amsterdam North. In times of financial crisis, construction provided jobs and income for the many unemployed workers in that period.

't Zonnehuis was built for the community of particular residents of Tuindorp Oostzaan, based on the philosophy that a flourishing club life is important to the education of the working class. In 1993 this location was barely saved from demolition. Later, in 2002, it came into the possession of Stadsherstel. The beautiful interiors were still largely authentic, but the shell was in a state of decay. Currently, the national monument is in its full glory and once again brings together all kinds of activities.

't Zonnehuis is wheelchair accessible and a wheelchair toilet is available.
