‘It’s quite possible’, Pikkuhenki thinks to herself, ‘that I am the most powerful witch in the world...' Pikkuhenki is a tiny witch, invisible to the human eye. But she sure is powerful! In 2001, the Concertgebouw commissioned Toon Tellegen to create a children’s show. At Tellegen’s request, Klaas ten Holt composed a lively contemporary score. Though the tale of Pikkuhenki was not new, the music steered it in a new direction – for example bringing a violin-playing bear into the story. Pikkuhenki is a modern and original take on works like ‘Peter and the Wolf’ and ‘Histoire du soldat’. Widely acclaimed at the beginning of the 21st century, this children's play is sure to be a 2012 festival hit.
