This year marks the seventh award of the Grachtenfestival Prize. The prize is intended to provide a stimulus for young emerging musicians of proven talent who are taking their first steps in a promising career, whether as soloists or ensembles. Dutch classical music journalists and critics have been asked to compile their personal top 5 from a longlist. The musicians with the largest share of the vote are then nominated for the Grachtenfestival Prize and invited to perform for a jury, this year made up of Biëlla Luttmer (Volkskrant newspaper), Frederike Berntsen (Trouw newspaper) and Floris Don (NRC Handelsblad newspaper). The winner gets the chance to perform at both the 2014 Grachtenfestival and at the State Hermitage Music Festival in St Petersburg.
